About Us

Farming Green draws together people and communities, helping them connect back to the Land. Our goal is for you to see yourself as part of Nature, to inspire and enable you to be part of the natural cycle through farming on any scale, sustainably. The site evolves with your engagement to be the tool you need to care for the earth, your community and your garden. Farming Green is a free flowing web environment of sustainable farming know-how and local resources. It’s a community of people who are willing to work with Nature rather than against it.

The site was created by Christian Dake, a life long small scale organic farmer, botanist, and permaculturist. Permaculture is a system of design based on natural ecosystems, which create permanent yet evolving systems that sustain humans at the center. There is an equilibrium, wherein the negatives of one element of the system are the positives for another element. The founder of the permaculture movement, Bill Mollison said “You don’t have a snail problem in the garden; you have a duck deficiency.” Energy is maximized by diversity, observation and planning. Waste is fuel for another part of the system.

Farming Green includes all aspects of sustainable farming from native uses of plants to new appropriate technologies. We believe that connecting online and in our local communities to share information, tools, genetics, and surpluses will make it easier for all of us to start farming sustainably. We are not only the earth’s problem, we are it’s solution.
